Til It Hits Home

Stories from Baltimore’s youth about their experiences with marijuana and alcohol abuse in our neighborhood and throughout the diaspora. In collaboration with West Baltimore Get Smart Drug Free Coalition, Nu Generation Art Ensemble and YouthWorks worked with Nu World Art Ensemble directors and actors to create a powerful and authentic musical theater production about youth escaping reality with substances.
Performers included students from our partner organization, the African Diaspora Alliance who had just returned home from Cuba. While in Cuba they did research on drug and alcohol use there. There were two performances at WombWork Blackbox Theater in the Greater Rosemount Community. Each was a full house with 150 people at each performance; 300 people attended in total. The students had talk-backs after each performance where they discussed drugs and alcohol within our community and the African Diaspora and how they could address addiction.
